Some mornings I know I can't leave the house without wrestling with God in prayer for a blessing on the day.

I just know that some days are going to require a bit more help from God to navigate. The weather is gloomy. I don't feel like going to work – I'd rather do something else, but I have a job and responsibilities. Other times it’s the stress of age and life or just another day of "whatever". We all have those days.

It is these days I remember the story of Jacob wrestling all night with God. As the day was breaking the Man (God) said, "Let me go, for the day breaks". Jacob said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me" (Genesis 32:26).

Jacob received the blessing of a new name. Now I am not looking for a new name but I take from this the truth that sometimes I need to stay on my knees in the early morning hours, and not leave my house, until I know I have received the help I need (a blessing?) to go through the day. That "blessing" may be wisdom, peace of mind, a sense of joy, grace or "whatever". I know when I have it and it's time to get up and go.

Use your early morning time to "wrestle" the blessing from God. Don't leave until you have it. I think there are times when God wants to see us stay with Him just a little longer in persevering prayer.

Stay with God and wrestle with Him till you receive your “whatever”.

Oh dude - talking to God until he gives you what you want? The morning prayer could extend until I need to go to sleep. Enjoyed the title and the thought that you go to God for what you want spiritually. Keep writing. :)

I'm not a morning person, so I pray late afternoon or in the evening. I can't get myself to pray three times a day on my knees, but I have to say a short prayer often during the day to just get myself to get something done. I've had depression quite often this year from food sensitivities to cow and milk products, yellow #5, aspartame, and sulfur dioxide. It took me a whole year to figure it out with God's help. The symptoms come the day after eating them. I have to be very cautious and ask if milk products are in things people bring to church potlucks. If they are not sure, I don't eat them anymore. The fact that God allowed me to get lactose intolerance this year really helped me to get away from them so I would not get the major depression symptoms of having trouble making decisions, negative thoughts and outlook, no joy in living, no appetite, etc. The best thing about the sore trial was that I know what major depression feels like now and I never want to feel it. It made me feel like I was getting dementia. Life is extremely hard in that state. I asked God to take the negative thoughts away, but they stay there until I am not depressed because I stay away from the foods and drinks that cause it for me. At least now I can tell myself if I get depressed again that it will pass and I will be doing better tomorrow. I can feel better going outside and looking at flowers, start an activity like weeding to get my mind off the negative, read my Bible, but it was extremely hard to pray in that condition. I wondered why I was having a hard time praying before the depression got intense. Can't go without a lot of sleep now as it can bring the depression symptoms back somewhat. There is a cause for every effect. Depression is caused by multiple effects. Checking for deficiencies of chromium, B vitamins, folic acid, B12, and other things are good. I showed no allergy to milk on a test. I have a food sensitivity which can cause symptoms up to 72 hours after ingesting the suspect foods and food additives. Yellow #5 is in movie popcorn, some chicken broth, pickles, relish, etc. Sulfur dioxide is used with some dried fruit. Cattle are being fed genetically modified corn. Food sensitivities are related to environmental allergies of which I have many. Grass of some kinds is one of them. God helps us even when our prayers are not very good. Thank you, God.

Good days or not so good days, we are in a daily battle. Jacob didn't wrestle with God until after he had some experiences of his own; some of which were not the way of God by his choice. Although we have heard and read how God wants us to conduct ourselves we sometimes try to hurry it up or do it in a way we think is right. I probably will have this struggle until He returns or until I sleep. Proverbs 14:12, Deuteronomy 30:19 Another part to this is Jacob personally strove with God until he received a blessing. It was also at a price, his thigh was put out of joint. How much do you or I want to serve God according to His instructions. If we choose The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, deciding ourselves what to do and how to do it, we will go astray. If we choose The Tree of Life, we will go in God's way and our character/image restored to be like Christ's. James 4:3 He wrestled with God until God decided he was wholeheartedly striving to follow God's way. Philippians 3:14, 1 Corinthians 9:24, Hebrews 12:1

I had the same satisfaction of getting peace after morning prayer. My problem is I don't pray all mornings. This is the area I need to improve, and God should be thanked and glorified for His protection, too. God bless you.
