The New Religion of Climate Change

Perspective

I remember back in the sixties when I first heard the climate was changing. As I remember, it was a cold, frosty day in Missouri. Fortune magazine previously had run an article in 1954, and they warned that another ice age was coming.

What is a religion? Most often we think of churches, temples or mosques associated with certain religions, but there is one other definition. One definition from Oxford Languages is, “A pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance. An example is, "Consumerism is the new religion."

Gaia the goddess of Earth

In ancient Greek mythology Gaia is considered the goddess of Earth. Gaia is worshipped among modern pagans as the spiritual embodiment of the earth. Many who have jumped on the bandwagon of climate change certainly believe they are pursuing something they consider of urgent and supreme importance; they intend to save the planet. In their commitment to the earth, it approaches worship.

Interestingly, the Club of Rome, 50 years ago in 1968 was founded with the agenda of eliminating national sovereignty and bringing about One World Government. Club members, composed of the world’s elite, believed humanity required “a common motivation, namely a common adversary” in order to realize their goal of world government. They chose to utilize the threat of worldwide environmental catastrophe. The Green New Deal agenda has the same goal of reducing the human carbon footprint preserving the planet. Many people are so fanatical about it that those who believe otherwise are branded with the label “climate change deniers.”

By being labeled as a “climate denier,” it is as though anathema is stamped on that person, and they are excommunicated from the world of human beings. One man said that anyone who doesn’t believe the climate is in danger and doesn’t do anything about it is immoral. Not all scientists believe that the climate change scenario is as the consensus of science claims.

Nobel Prize winner denies climate imperils the Earth

The Washington Post ran an article on November 16, 2023, titled, “He won a Nobel Prize. Then he started denying climate change." The article said, “At a fiery news conference at the Four Seasons hotel here Tuesday, speakers denounced climate change as a hoax perpetrated by a 'global cabal' including the United Nations, the World Economic Forum and many leaders of the Catholic Church. It might have seemed like a fringe event, except for one speaker’s credentials. John F. Clauser shared the Nobel Prize in physics last year before declaring Tuesday that ‘there is no climate crisis’ — a claim that contradicts the overwhelming scientific consensus.”

The article further says, “Clauser, who wore a gray blazer with black jeans and Teva sandals, appeared buoyant as he took the stage. He cycled through a PowerPoint presentation that began with the exclamation: ‘Great news! There is no climate crisis!’”
“‘Much as it may upset many people, my message is the planet is not in peril,’ Clauser told an audience of roughly a dozen people in the hotel conference room and others watching online. ‘I call myself a climate denier,’ he added. ‘I’ve been told that’s not politically correct. So, I guess I’m a climate crisis d-word person…’”

Wikipedia said this about Dr. John Clauser: “He believes that Earth's temperature is primarily determined by cloud cover instead of, as stated by the scientific consensus on climate change, carbon dioxide emissions. He has concluded that clouds have a net cooling effect on the planet, and stated "there is no climate crisis.”

If you don’t believe in climate change, you now know a highly experienced Nobel Prize scientist, who has studied all of the critical data, and he is in your camp. Clauser doesn’t believe the climate of the planet is greatly affected by manmade means, but through cloud cover. Interestingly, how does one explain why the western side of Antarctica is melting ice, but the eastern part is gaining ice?

Dramatic climate change is coming

Is the climate changing? Is it warming? Very few would disagree that Earth’s climate changes in cycles as does the Sun. Cycles on the Sun definitely affects the Earth and other planets. Incidentally, Science News ran an article April 4, 2007, titled, “No Escape: There’s global warming on Mars too,” saying, ‘The overall darkening of Mars’ surface in recent decades has significantly raised the Red Planet’s temperature, a possible cause for the substantial shrinkage of the planet’s southern ice cap, observed in the past few years…In some areas, particularly those over the planet’s southern ice cap, air temperatures might have increased as much as 4°C, the researchers report in the April 5 Nature.’”

The Bible does say great climatic changes are coming. The reason: human beings reject God and His laws which govern life. The Earth’s inhabitants will be afraid and suffer because of forces beyond their control, and it will come not by climate change as man supposes, but from other means; and it will come because of sin. Isaiah 24:19-20 says: “The earth is violently broken, the earth is split open, the earth is shaken exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall totter like a hut; its transgression shall be heavy upon it, and it will fall, and not rise again” (emphasis added).

Jesus Christ prophesied nearly two thousand years ago the signs of the end time: “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Luke 21:24-26).

The apostle John wrote in Revelation 6:12-17:

“I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, 'Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?'”

Man will suffer the wrath of God because of his lack of willingness to change and repent. The really big issue has been the stubbornness of people having a mindset to disobey God and reject Him altogether. Romans 1:22-23 states, “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.”

The reality is many unknowingly worship Gaia and the Earth, and turn away from Almighty God Who created the Earth. Jesus instructed us to be aware of our spiritual condition in this evil time. He said, “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).

Taiwan leader says China invasion unlikely for now

November 30, 2023 voanews.com reported:

China is not likely to consider a major invasion of Taiwan for now due to domestic challenges, the island's president Tsai Ing-wen said Wednesday, although Beijing is trying to sway its upcoming election.

"I think the Chinese leadership at this juncture is overwhelmed by its internal challenges," Tsai told the 2023 DealBook Summit in New York.

"My thought is that perhaps this is not a time for them to consider a major invasion of Taiwan," she added in a recorded interview. Tsai was responding to questions about the risks of an invasion, in the aftermath of a closely watched meeting between the U.S. and Chinese presidents, Joe Biden and Xi Jinping, in California this month. The leaders' talks, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, were aimed at preventing growing tensions from spiraling into conflict.

But Xi and Biden remain far apart on the flashpoint of Taiwan, with the Chinese leader telling his U.S. counterpart that reunification was "unstoppable."

China considers democratic Taiwan its territory, to be taken one day by force if necessary. For the moment however, Beijing is grappling with domestic economic, financial and political challenges, Tsai said.

Russia Steps Up Presence in Indian Ocean

November 30, 2023 voanews.com reported:

Russia docked warships in Bangladesh for the first time in five decades earlier this month and held its first joint naval exercises with Myanmar as Moscow eyes a greater role in the Indian Ocean region and looks to bolster ties with smaller countries in Asia.
Analysts say India is not averse to Russia, its old ally and largest supplier of defense equipment, stepping up its presence in its maritime neighborhood despite New Delhi’s deepening partnership with the United States, Japan and Australia to counter China’s expanding footprint in the strategic waters.

Ignoring pressure from its Western partners, New Delhi has maintained its decades-long relationship with Moscow and taken a neutral stand on the war in Ukraine.

NATO allies vow to stay firm on arming Ukraine

November 29, 2023 spacewar.com reported:

NATO members on Tuesday urged each other not to let up in backing Ukraine’s fight against Russia, amid doubts over US support and a bloody stalemate on the ground.

There are fears that a lack of adequate support from the West could end up forcing Kyiv to seek a compromise with Russian President Vladimir Putin from a position of weakness.

‘We just have to stay the course. This is also about our security interests,’ NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a meeting of the alliance’s foreign ministers in Brussels.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the NATO talks were aimed at ‘strongly reaffirming our support for Ukraine as it continues to face Russia’s war of aggression.’

China Says it Warns off Japanese Ships in East China Sea

November 28, 2023 voanews.com reported:

The Chinese coast guard said its vessels warned off Japanese ships that ‘illegally intruded’ into waters around disputed East China Sea islets on Tuesday.

The Chinese vessels ‘took necessary control measures,’ the coast guard added, without going into details. There was no immediate comment from Japan. China urged Japan to immediately cease all ‘illegal activities’ in the area and ensure that similar incidents do not recur, the coastguard added.

The waters around Diaoyu Islands, which Japan calls the Senkaku Islands, are claimed by both China and Japan.

Iran claims a new ballistic missile can travel at hypersonic

November 19, 2023 euronews.com reported:

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei toured the Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Force centre on Sunday where the Fattah-2 hypersonic ballistic missile was revealed to the public.

Hypersonic weapons, which fly at speeds in excess of Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound, could pose crucial challenges to missile defence systems because of their speed and maneuverability.

Ballistic missiles fly on a trajectory in which anti-missile systems like the US Patriot system can anticipate their path and intercept them. The more irregular the missile’s flight path, the more difficult it becomes to intercept. In June Iran unveiled the first Fattah missile system. At the time it claimed it can reach Mach 15 — which is 15 times the speed of sound.

Report: Anti-Christian Hate Crimes in Europe Leapt by 44 Percent in 2022

November 17, 2023 breitbart.com reported:

Religiously motivated hate crimes against Christians in Europe jumped by 44 percent in just one year, reveals a sobering report by a prominent Christian persecution monitoring group.

On Thursday, the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe (OIDAC Europe) released its Annual Report 2022/23, which documents a sharp rise in violent incidents and social hostility against Christians, as well as in vandalism and arson attacks on churches.

The report also underscores legal developments in several European countries that infringe upon the religious freedom of Christians, including ‘hate speech’ legislation, under which some Christians have been prosecuted for voicing mainstream Christian beliefs in public.

It also notes the elimination of conscience clauses and legislation needed to guarantee parents’ right to educate their children in conformity with their beliefs.

He won a Nobel Prize. Then he started denying climate change

November 16, 2023 washingtonpost.com reported:

At a fiery news conference at the Four Seasons hotel here Tuesday, speakers denounced climate change as a hoax perpetrated by a “global cabal” including the United Nations, the World Economic Forum and many leaders of the Catholic Church.

It might have seemed like a fringe event, except for one speaker’s credentials. John F. Clauser shared the Nobel Prize in physics last year before declaring Tuesday that “there is no climate crisis” — a claim that contradicts the overwhelming scientific consensus.

The event showcased Clauser’s remarkable shift since winning one of the world’s most prestigious awards for his groundbreaking experiments with light particles in the 1970s. His recent denial of global warming has alarmed top climate scientists, who warn that he is using his stature to mislead the public about a planetary emergency.

Clauser, 80, who has a booming voice and white hair he often leaves uncombed, has brushed off these concerns. He says skepticism is a key part of the scientific process.

“There was overwhelming consensus that what I was doing was pointless” in the 1970s, he said in an interview after the news conference. “It took 50 years for my work to win the prize. That’s how long it takes for opinions to change.”

Tuesday’s event was organized by the Deposit of Faith Coalition, a group of more than a dozen Catholic organizations that argues that “those pushing the anti-God and anti-family climate agenda need to be called out and exposed.” Clauser, who is an atheist, needed some convincing to be the keynote speaker, a coalition spokesman acknowledged.

The other speakers included Marc Morano, a former Republican congressional staffer who runs a website that rejects mainstream climate science, and Alex Newman, a journalist for right-wing media outlets who has called for exposing the “climate scam.” Both men took multiple jabs at former vice president Al Gore and his 2006 documentary about the dangers of climate change.

Clauser, who wore a gray blazer with black jeans and Teva sandals, appeared buoyant as he took the stage. He cycled through a PowerPoint presentation that began with the exclamation: “Great news! There is no climate crisis!”

“Much as it may upset many people, my message is the planet is not in peril,” Clauser told an audience of roughly a dozen people in the hotel conference room and others watching online. “I call myself a climate denier,” he added. “I’ve been told that’s not politically correct. So, I guess I’m a climate crisis d-word person."
