One of the most famous buildings in the world is the Parthenon, a huge temple built by the Athenian statesman Pericles, following the sack of the Acropolis during the Greco-Persian Wars (492–449 BC). The Parthenon was the chief shrine to the Greek goddess Athena, in Greek religion the city protectress, goddess of war and daughter of Zeus. Athena personifies excellence in close combat, victory and glory. The qualities that lead to victory are found on the aegis, or breastplate, that Athena wears when she goes to war. The Parthenon was built to house the gigantic gold and ivory statue of Athena known as The Athena Parthenos. According to Pliny the statue was 35 feet tall and was made using 2500 pounds of gold. In her right hand she held a small statue of the winged god Nike, meaning “victory.” (The well-known Nike shoe “swoosh” imitates the wings of Nike). Athena held a large circular shield in her left hand which rests on the floor, a spear on her left side, and a large coiled sacred snake resided between her feet and the shield. On her triple-crested helmet stood a sphinx and two griffins, (a beast with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion).

Completed in 438 BC and adorned with fabulous sculptures and statues, the Parthenon stood almost intact until it was severely damaged 1687 by Venetians fighting the Turks. The pieces of statues, friezes, pediments and sculptures were later gathered up by museums and thieves and are still largely scattered. In 1975 a restoration project that was to last 40 years was begun. The reconstructed message of the Parthenon has been pieced together by archaeologists. According to The Parthenon Code, a book by Robert B. Johnson, Jr., “The sculpture of Athena’s great temple, the Parthenon, celebrates the triumph of Zeus-religion over Noah and His God-believing children. All seven of the sculptural themes relate to Noah in some significant way.” Athena is often depicted on vases and sculpture as standing next to a tree with a snake climbing it, an obvious depiction of the Garden of Eden event. Johnson states, “Ancient Greek religion, what we call mythology, tells the same story as the book of Genesis, except that the serpent is the enlightener of mankind rather than our deceiver.” The Greek religion is based, in the words of the ancient poet Hesiod, “how the gods and mortal men sprang from one source. Zeus and Hera were the first couple and the source of all humanity.” The term “father Zeus,” meaning “king of the gods” is used over one hundred times in the writings of Homer.

False Worship Today

The gods of ancient Greece depict the worship of man as the ultimate authority. In this religion, we have only ourselves and our ancestors to worship. Is this folly still with us today?

The 2024 Olympics began recently with four-hour boat “Parade of Nations” down the Seine River highlighting historic Paris landmarks, including the Notre-Dame cathedral and the Louvre. Athletes from 206 countries flew their nation’s flags and wore their uniforms for the cruise, the second boat of which carried 37 athletes wearing stark white sweat suits with no country affiliation. They were the Olympic Refugee Team, made up of athletes, supposedly refugees, from 11 different countries.

Drag queens and LGBTQ themes were apparent. One of the boats depicted an obvious reenactment of the “Last Supper” painting by DaVinci. It featured men in women’s outfits on either side of a large woman wearing a moon shaped crown, and a nearly naked man painted in blue emerging from the center of a table to sing with dancing drag queens. The mockery of Christianity was immediately obvious. Catholic, Conservative and Christian leaders were quick to condemn the scene as an offensive parody of Jesus’ Last Supper. Even Muslims voiced strong objection.

A Connection to Ancient False Religion

Producers of the performance replied that this was a celebration of the feast of Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, wine and revelry. Even the official Olympics account on X stated on Friday that the “interpretation of the Greek God Dionysus makes us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings.”

The worship of Dionysus, or Bacchus as the Romans called him, dates from the 7th century BC. Bacchus celebrations took place three times a year in Rome, and included ritual sacrifice of goats, dances and performances by masked participants, drinking wine and lots of revelry. The historian Livy wrote that “the Bacchic Mysteries and the celebration of the wine god were held several times a year, and were highly controversial and hated by the State for the subversive ways in which they undermined Rome’s civil, religious, and moral culture, as they were filled with drunken revelry and sexual promiscuity.”

Barbara Butch, a popular DJ who was featured in the center of the Last Supper scene, responded to a reporter, “it was a photograph of France in 2024.” Perhaps she was correct, and not just for France but for almost all of Europe and much of Western Civilization. Our historical Judeo-Christian ethics are rapidly being replaced by the false mythology of ancient Greece. Bacchanalia is now a part of our entertainment, sports, and often everyday life.

There are serious consequences for believing and acting on lies. On the fourth day of the Olympic games, Italy’s Olympic female boxer Angela Carini faced a biological man who had been permitted to fight as a woman by the IOC. After being twice punched in the face hard by the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, Carini called it quits in tears 46 seconds into a women’s welterweight bout. Now all can see one result of the transgender revolution: the abuse of women.

Science Daily published in 2018, “The sex of a baby is determined by its chromosome make-up at conception. An embryo with two X chromosomes will become a girl, while an embryo with an X-Y combination results in a boy.” That scientific truth cannot be changed, despite the number of people who want to believe an ideological lie.

A Warning Both Then and Now

God warns us through the words of Malachi, “The day is coming, burning like an oven . . . Remember the Law of Moses, My servant . . . with the statutes and judgments” (Malachi 4:1-:4). The story of the Parthenon is being repeated in the US and Europe today. Only a return to the Laws of God, given by our Creator, can prevent mankind from destroying itself.
