He was surprised when he found that 94 percent of them were simply enduring the present while they waited for the future. Farmers were waiting for rain to come and a bumper crop to develop. Clerks were waiting for a promotion. Actors were waiting for their big break. Some were waiting for an inheritance or for the cure to an illness. They were enduring today for the sake of at least a somewhat better tomorrow.

Life is like that. This life is a stepping-stone to eternity. That is why Jesus said we should "seek first the kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33). That Kingdom is the truly better tomorrow for all of mankind. There can be no more perfect goal to live for than the future that our Creator offers.
