Many people work hard to achieve their goals in life. We plan, struggle, organize and reorganize ourselves. We study, learn from our mistakes and in time taste success. With success naturally comes some pride in our accomplishments. But when pride influences us, we tend to depend less on the wisdom of others and more on our own. Proverbs 11:2 reveals that when pride comes, then comes shame. Wisdom remains where there is humility.

The more pride increases, the more our success declines. Stubbornly continuing in error can bring all of our achievements to nothing. Pride blocks our minds from seeking advice and from looking for fresh, new ways to do something better. It’s odd that pride can come so easily after the years of humility we have shown as we learn. It is something to seriously guard against.
