There is no doubt that education is a wonderful blessing. To be able to train the mind to understand history, geography, science and the arts enriches one immensely. In today’s mad rush, however, young people are pushed so hard that study consumes almost all of their time. Many university students face the resulting burnout every year.

The Bible warns us that too much of this good thing will cause problems (Ecclesiastes 12:12). It can become wearisome and cause us to neglect other crucial areas of development.

In almost everything we experience, we can hurt ourselves by trying to take hold of too much. We all want the good things of life, and God does supply them—but He also expects us to learn to use them wisely and with control. Too much of a good thing will make that good thing bad for us.
