One memory that sticks with us is the smell and taste of home cooking. We have imprinted in our minds the goodness of the home we grew up in. For me, pierogies and dumplings are high on the list. The smell of a chocolate cake baking also ranks high. "Homemade" means made with love.

I read a note recently that said, "Good character, like good soup, is usually homemade." Although I don't know who the author was, I recognize the wisdom. Home is where we feel loved and safe. It is where we learn to be generous, kind, selfless and considerate. We learn that because our parents are that way. They sacrifice to make our house a home. That's part of why God tells us to "honor your father and mother." As long as we are honoring our parents, we are learning from them the wisdom of life, like a good cook passing along good recipes.
