That was written in a day where the number of books were few in comparison to what we see today. Not all books are worth reading, and it takes wisdom to find those that enhance our lives and add something positive. Paraphrasing what Robert Louis Stevenson once wrote in Longman’s Magazine in 1882, if the words of a book are eloquent, they should ring in our ears and repeat themselves in a thousand colored pictures to the eye.

There is no set of books that is more valuable than the 66 books that make up the Holy Bible. The King James Bible was carefully crafted in order to preserve the spirit of the original text in a majestic and reverent style. The word of God ought to occupy the most prominent place on our bookshelf and always remain within easy reach. A good book makes a person rich and has great value. The Bible leads a person to eternal life. It is impossible to place too high a value on this book—on our shelves and in our lives.

Thank you for the input Judd. I read Luke 24 which refers to some Old Test. Scriptures. It is always good to put our heads together to gain knowledge. What a great thing it is to be alive at a time of knowledge as we now have. Thanks for your input. By the way, I can now change the number of great to 8 with another coming in March. Grandchildren are something else. May you enjoy the blessings God has given. (-:

Mr. Berendt, when my wife and I attended our first Sabbath service 45 years ago in Youngstown, Ohio, and within two months we had a Bible Study on the Inspired Order of the Books of the Bible. That was our first exposure to the actual order and 49 books of the Bible. Sixty-six in Bible numerics is the mark of man while 7x7 =49 is divine completeness. Luke 24:44 gives the mind of Christ on this issue---the Law, Prophets and Psalms. It was brother Jerome of Latin Vulgate fame that gave us the 66 books. Now, I hope you will repent in dust and ashes! :) Otherwise, I loved the point of your short article. By the way, I have 10 grandchildren. You beat me by 4! Glad it is not 6 :)
