From the Psalms
Planted by the Rivers of Water
I came across this fantastic aerial photo of the Nile delta. Everything that is not in close proximity to the Nile and it’s flowing waters, appears to be a desert wasteland. The greenery is glowing like a beacon in this satellite photo. What a contrast from the sand dunes that surround the rich vegetation near the river.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly… But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1-3)
You and I cannot live without water. Just as our physical body depends on water to survive, so does our spiritual life depend on our relationship with God and obedience to His laws. You and I need to read His word daily. And not just read it like a great piece of literature. We need to read it for instruction and application on how to live our lives. It is our spiritual nourishment. Do you delight in His laws? Do you see His commands as the best way to live your life? It is when we drink from the waters of the bible that we will grow, mature and prosper.
What would this photo look like if the river weren’t there? Would there be any vegetation and if so would it be withered and dried up, unable to produce any fruit. You will not grow spiritually without seeking God daily. For your own spiritual well-being, commit yourself to be like a tree that is planted by the rivers of water, bringing forth prosperous fruit in all you do.
