Go to the Ant
Could you learn anything about life from an insect?
Solomon, the wisest king of antiquity, wrote, "Go to the ant, consider her ways and be wise."
Why the lowly ant? Solomon wrote, "...having no captain or ruler, [she] provides her supplies for the summer, and gathers her good for the harvest" (Proverbs 6:6-8). In other words, the ant prepares for the future.
Unfortunately, many people expect future success to happen by accident. Young people drop out of school because they see no purpose in history or mathematics only to later find they're trapped in a dead end job because of a lack of education.
Points to build on
Retailers entice young people to go into debt with a false dream that they can own all the latest electronic gadgets, cars, clothing and furniture that took their parents decades to earn having to pay their dues. All they have to do is purchase everything on credit. The problem is that someday the monthly payments can gobble up a paycheck leaving little for daily living and no investment in the future.
The book of Proverbs recommends, "Prepare your outside work, Make it fit for yourself in the field; And afterward build your house" (Proverbs 24:27).
Adhering to this important lesson would save many young people years of trying to dig out of debt or facing foreclosure on a home. Get a proper education, train for your "outside work," achieve some success and after you've created some financial stability then purchase your house.
Application
All success is a result of preparation for success. For young people, staying in school, learning geography and science, history and mathematics, is a practice for success in adult life. Delaying instant gratification for greater future success is a sign of maturity. The harder you work in preparation the more equipped you will be for success.
If you want to learn one of the secrets of success, go to the ant.
