To some, Christianity is like a mystery novel. But it doesn't have to be this way!

[Steve Myers] Everybody loves a good mystery. You probably heard that saying. I was reading a book the other day and it had all kinds of twists and turns, you weren't quite sure where it was going to go. And the author did such a great job of hiding things so you didn't know what to expect next. I don't know if you realize God's way is like that, in a sense. There's a section of scripture in 1 Corinthians chapter two, that describes this very thing. In verse seven, the apostle Paul writes this, "We speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory." And that mystery is the Greek word, mystírion, that's the base word for mystery. And you can get the feel for what that word really means as he goes on. He says, "None of the rulers of this age knew for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." Then it goes on, "But it is written, eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love him." And so this mystery, this mystírion that Paul is talking about points to the plan of God. Really, the Bible itself is a mystery in the sense that the Greeks used that word. It's a mystery, something that's hidden, something that can be a secret, but something special that needs to be revealed in order to understand.

And that's exactly what Paul is talking about. You might think, well, if we stopped right there, well, nobody can understand it. It's just an absolutely hidden secret. But that is not the case. It says in verse 10, "God has revealed them to us through His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God." So this mystery of the wisdom of God, the mystery of his plan is something that God has to reveal. God has to show us. And He does demonstrate that through His Spirit.

So, if you're beginning to understand the Bible, God's working with you. He's working through his Spirit, search out his word. God promises to reveal and help us to understand His way as He calls us and draws us close to Him. So, think about God's calling in that way. God has opened your mind to his truth. Dig deeper, search deeper by the power of God's Spirit, and that secret can be revealed to you.

That's BT Daily, see you next time.

Great message! The Gospel - the Kingdom - the Resurrection to eternal life as God's child in His eternal Family and Kingdom. Please keep focused on the main message of God's Word, as did Paul. This is so needed in this postmodern world culture of Bible illiterates. Plant the Gospel in people's' hearts. Water the seed with prayer. And believe and expect God to bring forth the fruit from formerly hardened hearts into eternal life - Hallelujah!
