There is a spiritual lesson inside one of the ways to combat anxiety.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] Anxiety, it's a big problem in our world today. We get anxious over everything. Many people deal with anxiety attacks. One of the challenges when it comes to this is when we start feeling anxious, oftentimes, we'll start breathing in a very shallow, forced kind of a way and we breathe really rapidly and that causes even more problems. Scientifically, they talk about hyperventilating and that can bring on more and more problems all the time.

I was reading an article about this the other day on WebMD. And it talked about the fact that one way you can counter that is start to breathe slower. Just focus on your breathing and slow down. In fact, they call this a parasympathetic response. When you force yourself to slow down and think about your breathing, it has this sense of calming you down.

I wonder if that's what God had in mind when He inspired what is written in Psalm 150. Psalm 150, it's in fact the very last verse of the Psalms in verse 6. It says this, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." When we begin to think even about our breathing, don't take your breathing for granted. You don't want to take it for it granted if you're feeling anxious. You want to concentrate on it and slow down and calm down and have that parasympathetic response. More importantly, who is more sympathetic than our God? Who understands us better than our Creator? No one does. So focus on God and let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

That's BT Daily. See you next time.

Hi, my name is Samantha i am about to listen and go through your anxiety series as when I was browsing through it hit home to me, how what is going on in the world really bothers me and causes me great anxiety. On my journey to truly know the scripting ultimately to know god I have learnt that we must not let worldly issues stop us or slow us in finding god. I find this hard at times if I'm honest. I have huge compassion for animals and all animal cruelty globally and for that reason I am vegetarian and hope to go vegan, as long as it is OK with god. God gave us food which he classed as good for us to eat, but i don't like the way these poor animals get treated just so we can eat them so im stuck in a situation trying to not worry but at the same time to have peace but I find it so hard sometimes knowing what goes on in the world around us
