[Steve Myers] Another important key to understanding the Bible is to simply take notes. Jot down your thoughts, especially when you hear explanations about the Bible that you may have been confused about, write down what the truth is. Take a note on it. You might write it in your Bible, that can be very helpful. So then when you come back to those passages, there it is, and you can have that reminder right there for you. Or you might keep a notebook, or some of us will take notes on our iPad or our computer. That way, you'll have a depth of understanding that will help you remember. If you're like me, it's easy to forget things. So when you take notes, it will help that memory process. In fact, you could even write down related scriptures, and that's always important. Have you ever got to that point where you think, "Oh, I know there's a scripture about that. Where is that?" Well, if you can remember one passage, you could always jot down a related scripture right near it. That way, it'll always be right there and handy.

In fact, a lot of people will use a marking system for their Bible. They might take notes in their Bible, and even color-code their Bible. So they'll mark doctrines of the Bible with a certain color, or they'll mark down different prophecies with a different color. And so that can help you to relate passages and correlate different concepts even within different doctrines. So it can be really helpful in that way, especially when you're looking for a particular section of scripture and you're paging through the Bible and you see that color, then you go, "Oh, yeah. Okay. That's a prophetic passage." And so that can be so helpful when you really want to understand and then recall the different aspects of the Bible. In fact, there's a passage in the book of Revelation at the very beginning, Revelation 1:3, that kind of ties in this idea of note-taking. It says this, "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it, for the time is near."

You know, God's word is critical. We really want to have a depth of understanding. So one of the keys to really keeping that in our minds is taking notes. So get good at note-taking, and it'll certainly be a key to keeping your understanding of the Bible.
