If we take a few steps back from the divisive issues in our world and remember who is in charge and what purpose He is working out we can find balance and perspective.

[Darris McNeely] In the United States, the election of 2020, the presidential election is over. As I'm talking here at this point, the final decision has not been called but we're close. But as we move into the aftermath of what has been a very, very rancorous and divisive season, electorally in the United States, everybody has an opinion, everybody has observations, and we're all wondering what has happened? What will happen? Where do we go from here? One thing is for sure, the election is behind us. There will be a winner declared. Life will move on. The work of the nation will move on. The world will move on, in many ways, and of that we can be sure. We will have to accept the outcome of the election.

One thing that I do know, one observation that I have at this time that I'd like to share with you is that the problems, the moral, ethical, and spiritual problems of the United States has been more sharply defined and exposed as a result of the period that we have been through in 2020 with the election, with the pandemic, and riots, and other events, our problems have been more sharply exposed. And it appears that this election has not moved to create a soothing balm of healing at this point.

There's a Scripture in Psalm 33 that I was looking at that I think all of us need to kind of take a step or maybe two steps back and look at and to read. I was reading it recently. It's in Psalm 33, beginning in verse 10. And it's one of those statements that just kind of grabs you, and makes you stop, and realize who's really in charge, and whose world this really is, and what purpose is being worked out. It says, "The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the plans of the people of no effect."

Why? Because God has an overall purpose. And that purpose, we know from other Scriptures is steadfast and sure, it's been in place since before the foundation of the world, and it is moving relentlessly toward a conclusion. And God is in charge of history, and God is in charge of the nations, and the counsels of any nation, of any political persuasion, will ultimately be brought to nothing when it comes to the comparison to the overall plan of God.

He goes on in verse 11 and says, "The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations," and our generation. Right now, we must understand that, that it is God's counsel that will stand forever, God's plan, God's purpose, God's platform. And that's tremendously encouraging and comforting.

Now we watch and we seek to understand our world, and we seek to come out of this world, and we seek to certainly stand for the principles of God in this world. He goes on here and he says, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His inheritance."

And so, a thought, to help us take maybe two steps back, to get a perspective, to gain a balance and make sure that it's oriented from God's point of view, not just at America, not just at any one political persuasion, but at His purpose and His overall plan. Keep that perspective, and we'll have a balanced life, and we'll have a sane life.
